Vintage description 1994 Burgundy

The perfect conditions to produce an exceptional vintage were sadly spoilt by rain at the beginning of September, which affected the end of the ripening stage and the beginning of the harvest. The harvest was quite early, average in quality, of reasonable ripeness but of mixed sanitary condition. The quality of the red wines varied from quite good to good. The best of these have a surprisingly intense colour that is reflected in the notes of small black fruits, which often predict a dense, remarkably structured wine. The finesse and appeal of this wine's aromatic expression is predominantly made up of small stoned fruits and macerated fruits. They have an elegant texture on the palate with tannins that are both soft and mouth-filling. The white wines were more successful and slightly less heterogeneous with a good overall quality. The wines are spontaneous and agreeable. The honey-based aroma is lovely and intense. More fruity than floral, it diversifies into pear, apricot and exotic fruit, often associated with marzipan. They are ample and long on the palate with a mellowness that is often accentuated by a discrete acidity.
