The wine
Finding wines by Jacques Puffeney is a heroic feat today, and for good reason. First established in the 1960s, but closed in 2014, a part of the vineyard was sold to the Marquis d’Angerville and the rest remains in the hands of the winegrower and one of his nephews. This cuvée is such a rarity that it would be a shame to pass it up. An Arbois produced from the Melon à Queue Rouge grape variety - an old Jura variety related to Chardonnay which offers low yields but high quality and concentration, especially under the expert hand of our winemaker ‘Le Puff’! Such respectful methods are the result of a strong philosophy. The wine has a balance between body and delicacy. In its youth, this wine is characterised by notes of citrus, white fruits and white flowers which become enriched by flavours of dried fruits, such as almonds and hazelnuts.
About the Producer Jacques Puffeney
Created in 1960 by Jacques Puffeney, the domain spans 6 hectares, spread over a dozen parcels. He farmed Poulsard, Pinot Noir, Trousseau, Chardonnay and Savagnin with meticulous care. Puffeney retired in 2014 and sold 4.25 hectares of the domain to Marquis d'Angerville (Volnay, Burgundy). He kept the rest for himself and one of his nephews.
