Venture into the Spanish wine landscape to discover the new wave of natural wines, led by prominent winemakers like Manuel Cantalapiedra, who creates this striking orange wine, infused with a beautiful mineral character.

More info

In the Castilla y León region, the Cantalapiedra family’s estate stretches across some 20 hectares of vines where Verdejo reigns supreme. The vines thrive in soils rich in limestone, clay, pebbles and sandy gravel, which contribute to the distinct personality of the wines. At the helm of the estate is Manuel Cantalapiedra, a visionary in the region, fiercely dedicated to his terroir and committed to organic and biodynamic winegrowing practices. It is through this approach that he has crafted this remarkable orange wine, made from a small plot of Verdejo vines barely 30 years old. The hand-harvested grapes are carefully stored in small 15kg crates before being transported to the winery. There, they ferment naturally with the help of native yeasts in stainless steel vats. The wine then spends 8 months ageing on its lees, before being bottled without fining or filtration.
On the palate, the wine is rich and full-bodied, yet beautifully balanced by a noble acidity and an elegant minerality, culminating in a delicately saline finish.

About the Producer Cantalapiedra Viticultores

At the heart of Seca, a small town in Castilla y Leon, different generations of the Cantalapiedra family have worked passionately, crafting wine. Nearly 21 hectares of vines aged around 30 years grow in the birthplace of the Verdejo variety. The soils are mainly composed of gravel but there are also some clay, sand, and limestone spots too. The region’s terroir is defined by its distinctive mantle of pebbles, which plays a crucial role in shaping the character of the Verdejo grape. Aware of today’s environmental issues and committed to offering authentic cuvées that reflect the purest expression of the terroir, the estate adheres to strict biodynamic principles and is certified organic. After the grapes are harvested entirely by hand, vinification takes place with as little intervention as possible to conserve their excellent quality. Fermentation is started by natural yeasts and minimum sulphur is added.
