Julien Klein produces a single-varietal Riesling grand cru grown on granitic soil. This is a wine that can be cellared for up to 10 years.

More info

Julien Klein’s Riesling Frankstein Grand Cru is produced from vines growing in a granitic soil. Four different minerals are found here: quartz, white and black mica, and feldspar. The vineyard lies between Strasbourg and Colmar, to the north of Dambach-la-Ville, where the vines benefit from altitudes ranging from 220 to 330 metres. These vines, over 30 years old, enjoy a south-westerly exposure, and the Bernstein Mountain shields the rows from the westerly winds. Here, the vines are pruned short and the grapes are manually harvested at peak ripeness. Julien Klein adheres to organic farming principles in his vineyard, respecting the environment and limiting the use of pesticides.
In the winery, the traditional approach involves little intervention. The wines are matured for long periods varying from 18 to 24 months. This Frankstein Grand Cru Riesling is pleasantly fruity and flavoursome, perfect with fish dishes.

About the Producer Julien Klein

A real ‘child of the region’, the son of cooperative winegrowers, he established his estate in Kintzheim in 2017. Winemaker, artisan and farmer in the truest sense of the terms, he puts a great deal of energy into his work in the vineyard, reducing intervention to a minimum in the winery. There, everything is done by hand and foot! Little machinery is used between the rows of vines and the paths are well grassed. The pruning is kept short, the harvest is carried out by hand, and the grape varieties are perfectly suited to the terroir and each parcel. Certified organic and closely attuned to natural winemaking practices, his wines spend two years in the cellar before being bottled. Each bottle produced captures all the richness and complexity of his terroirs, all the history of his localities, all the freshness of his grapes, and all the delicacy of his vines.
The freshness and frankness of his wines have caught the attention of the French magazine La Revue du Vin de France, who have included him, along with 14 others, in their ‘winemakers to watch’ for 2025. So, follow the guide!
