About the Producer Château de France
The Château de France's vineyard covers 38.5 hectares, on one of the highest hills in the municipality of Léognan. Adjoining Fieuzal, it benefits from excellent exposure and soil, usually resulting in a high quality harvest. The vines grow on outcrops of Pyrenean gravel, with a humid iron-rich clay subsoil. When he bought the Château de France, Bernard Thomassin's objective was to enable the property to regain the prestige and reputation that it enjoyed in the 19th century. He carried out substantial investment in a replanting programme for the vineyard and restoration of the winery, with a view to producing an exceptional wine. The blending process and choice of grape varieties have enabled the production of wines whose quality and reputation is worthy of the appellation. The Château de France is a member of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux.
