Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Coquard Loison-Fleurot 2015
The wine
In the Côte de Beaune we find Coquart Loison, a family-run estate. In the hands of the fifth generation, this winery has vines nestled in some of the finest appellations in the area. They craft this cuvée from the famous Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot. Enjoying an oceanic climate with a semi-continental influence, the Pinot Noir vines draw their nutrients from soils composed of limestone and marl. This is made possible by using growing methods that respect the relationship between vine and soil, culminating in careful manual harvesting. In the cellar, vinification involves destemming and alcoholic fermentation for two weeks in temperature-regulated open vats. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for a year and a half before being bottled without prior fining or filtration.
Made for cellaring, this Grand Cru has a fairly intense red colour with a scent of musk, red and black fruits, sweet spices and leather. The tannins, which are very present in its youth, tend to soften upon maturing, promising a persistent profile.
