Cornas Cuvée C Marcel Juge 1988
The wine
Marcel Juge is a low-profile yet sought-after figure of Cornas, located in the northern Rhône valley. He only produced two cuvées - SC and C - and was renowned for the professionalism of his work both in the vineyards and in the cellars. Considered as “secondary”, the C cuvée was produced using Syrah grapes grown on the appellation's steep granite soils, which benefited from the influence of a semi-continental climate.
Made for cellaring, this wine has a rather intense ruby-red colour with violet glints. The wine has a deep bouquet that needs time - including a spell in a carafe - to develop. It has notes of red and black fruits, sweet spices, violet, cacao, graphite, precious wood and incense which escape from the glass, introducing a powerful palate, structured by strong tannins in its youth. These tannins tend to soften over time, but are well suited to hearty dishes such as game or rare red meat.
About the Producer Marcel Juge
Wines from Marcel Juge enjoy iconic status in the Cornas region and are hankered after in the same way as those from Auguste Clape and Noël Verset. Leading the way on this ancestral domain, he produces two cuvées: “C” and “SC”.
