Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Vergelesses Maison Esprit Leflaive 2018

The wine

Esprit Leflaive’s Les Vergelesses 1er Cru is a white wine made from Chardonnay. The vines thrive on a terroir consisting of limestone and marl soils. Biodynamic methods which respect the environment and promote biodiversity are used to nurture the vines of this 1er cru, and the grapes are hand-harvested. Winemaking methods are traditional, including fermentation in stainless steel vats to preserve the purity of the aromas. The wine is matured in French oak casks for around one year, with a proportion of new wood, which imparts subtle woody notes and a good tannic structure.
The wine is then matured in stainless steel vats to perfect the balance and complexity. This nectar is characterised by white-fleshed fruit notes of pear and apple, combined with floral and mineral notes. The palate reveals a delightful freshness, a lively acidity and a long elegant finish.
