Why choose this wine?

A dense and elegant Beaujolais, a polar opposite of the region's emblematic light wines. This Gamay is sculpted by the granite soils and the precise hand of Jules Desjourneys, which is fantastically vibrant, deep and unique.

More info

Produced from vineyards located around Moulin-à-Vent, one of the most prestigious appellations in Beaujolais, this wine takes its name from the mythological River Styx, a sacred boundary separating the world of the living from the underworld – a nod to the deep, dark, and unflinching character of this Gamay. The terroirs are dominated by manganese-rich granite soils, giving the wine structure, verticality and a unique mineral tension. The old vines, mostly goblet-trained, are farmed according to organic principles. The wine is crafted in the style of Jules Desjourneys: hand-harvested grapes are fully destemmed, fermented in wooden barrels without any additives and gently punched down. It then undergoes extended barrel ageing to preserve fruit purity and express the terroir without dominant wood influence. The wine is bottled unfiltered.
The wine is a dense, deep garnet-red. The nose evokes black cherries, violets, and peony, with hints of incense and warm stone. On the palate, the wine is vertical and direct, almost austere in its youth, but driven by a mineral energy and unexpected density for a Gamay.
