More infoTLZ Sonne Nr.9, from Austrian winemaker Franz Strohmeier, is a striking and profound expression of the natural wine movement in the Austrian wine country – a vast winemaking region that covers most of Austrian production. The continental climate tempered by alpine influences promotes slow, precise ripening – ideal for the extended skin maceration typical of orange wines. In Western Steiermark, the vines climb steep slopes of gneiss, schist and clay soils, a terroir that contributes distinctive minerality and vibrant energy to the cuvée. The wine is made without oenological additives: after a weeks?long skin maceration, fermentation occurs spontaneously followed by extended ageing with no added sulphur.
The wine is an amber colour with coppery hues. The nose evokes aromas of orange peel, black tea, incense and pine resin. On the palate, the wine is structured, vibrant, textured and almost tannic, leading to a salty and persistent finish.

★ Partner ProducerC’est dans les années 1990 que Franz Strohmeier, reprend quelques vignes que possédait son père en polyculture. C’est alors qu’il décide à créer son domaine sur les coteaux pentus de Lestein qu’il convertit rapidement aux techniques bio et biodynamiques. Et pour cause, les vignerons font partie du groupement de viticulteurs Schmecke das Leben, qui signifie « goûtez la vie ». Franz, et sa femme Christine accompagnent les vignes pour produire les meilleurs raisins, produits d’un terroir. Cela repose sur des petits rendements, un travail peu interventionniste en cave et un grand respect de la nature, en laquelle ils ont entièrement confiance. L’un des secrets du domaine est son élevage long pour permettre une vraie complexité des vins.
Ils forgent plusieurs cuvées de vins blancs, rouges, oranges et pétillants, reconnaissables grâce à leur étiquette dont le logo fait penser à celui d’iDealwine. Les cépages travaillés sont nombreux : sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, pinot blanc, zweigelt, muskateller, savignier gris, muscaris… une véritable référence autrichienne.
