Intensity
An indulgent Tuscan red combining depth and freshness with notes of dark fruit, sweet spice and liquorice.
More infoThe Il Poggione estate stretches across the hills of Sant’Angelo in Colle, south of Montalcino, at altitudes ranging from 150 to 450 metres. The soils here are rich in pebbles, red clay and limestone. The harvest is carried out by hand, with a rigorous selection of the bunches at full phenolic ripeness. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, at around 25 °C, with daily pump-overs. Maceration is extended for about 15 to 20 days to build structure without over-extraction. The wine then ages for 12 months in Slavonian oak foudres (large tuns).
The wine displays a beautiful intense ruby-red hue. The expressive and elegant bouquet reveals aromas of black cherry, juicy plum, dried violet and sweet spice. The indulgent and generous palate is structured and seamless, with supple, well-integrated tannins balancing fruit concentration, freshness and finesse. The finish lingers with notes of dark fruit, liquorice, Mediterranean herbs and a delicate touch of cocoa.
