Lot presentation

Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Huguenot 2019

The wine

The Huguenot family estate, which has owned land since 1800, notably owns a parcel in the legendary Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, which is its pride and joy. The wine we are talking about here stems from this parcel. The Pinot Noir grapes used to produce this wine flourish in a semi-oceanic climate with semi-continental influences, and are encouraged to draw the nutrients they require from marl and limestone soils, by means of organic and biodynamic cultivation methods. These cultivation methods ensure the identity of the terroir is retained and the same ethos applies in the winery. Matured in wood, the wine displays a particularly dense and intense ruby-red colour. It reveals notes of red and black fruit, sweet spices, floral hints such as rose, coffee, liquorice and musk. The palate is fleshy, dense and structured by powerful tannins. As you will have gathered, this is a wine that should be cellared for a long time.

About the Producer Huguenot

The Huguenot family lands have been cultivated and acquired from one generation to the next since 1800. The 23 hectares of vines cultivated today, stretching across the emblematic landscape of the Côte de Nuits, are the fruit of the relentless labour of previous generations. Marguerite and Roger Huguenot-Quillardet cultivated a few hectares of vines in the mid-twentieth century, including an emblematic parcel of Charmes Chambertin, before their son Jean-Louis took over in 1968. Together with his wife Éliane, the young winemaker went to great lengths to build a modern winery and cellar for his vineyard, which now spans more than 18 hectares. From 2019 onwards, the couple wholeheartedly took a stand for the identity of their terroirs and decided to grow their vines in accordance with organic farming methods and biodynamic viticulture practices. Their son Philippe, supported by his wife, joined the family business in 1993 and has undertaken extensive renovation work on the vathouse to add a new chapter to the domain’s story.
