The wine
Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the nine grands crus the of Gevrey-Chambertin appellation.
Situated in the northern Côte de Nuits, this prestigious terroir is known for producing powerful, intense and finely etched wines that can at times rival Chambertin itself. The vines rise along east-facing slopes between 280 and 300 metres in altitude. The brown limestone soils mixed with clay are covered with a surface layer of stony scree. The vines, averaging 50 years of age, are harvested by hand. Once brought into the winery, the grapes ferment naturally with native yeasts. Gentle extraction preserves aromatic finesse and complexity. The wine is then aged for 16 months in oak casks, with 30% new wood.
The deep ruby hue reveals an intense, complex bouquet combining black fruit with spice, lifted by touches of leather and undergrowth. The broad, powerful palate is structured by racy tannins, leading into a persistent finish marked by smoky and stony nuances.
About the Producer Roche de Bellene
Domaine Roche de Bellene was created in 2005 by Nicolas Potel after the purchase of several plots of vines ranging from Santenay to Vosne Romanée. The vines are aged from 50 to 110 years old and are grown organically. The domaine then launched a trading business under the name of Roche de Bellene which is discussed here.
