Celebris Extra-Brut Gosset 2008
The wine
This Celebris rosé is made from 59% Chardonnay and 41% Pinot Noir. In Champagne (and nowhere else!) rosé can be made by blending red and white wine together. This wine is vinified traditionally on lees. An extra-brut dosage of 5g/l is added to maintain a nice balance between the freshness of the Chardonnay and the vinosity of the Pinot. The wine is matured for over 10 years in the cellar before being sold. It is pale pink in the glass with an expressive nose of raspberry, strawberry and blueberry. The ample palate is dominated by these same red fruits, joined by citrus notes. You could accompany this wine with a dish like roasted shrimp. This cuvée will easily last years, at least 15.
About the Producer Gosset
Gosset, whose ancestors have lived in Aÿ since 1484, is one of the oldest houses in Champagne (created in 1584 by Jean Gosset). Béatrice Cointreau passed the domain over to her brother Jean-Pierre in 2007. Gosset's speciality has become vinous, intense and powerful champagnes which age majestically. This is particularly true for their brilliant vintage cuvées and the cuvée Célébris. The house launched a new cuvée in 2007, a blanc de blancs with remarkable tension.
