An elegant Languedoc red combining the southern power of Syrah with the aromatic richness of Grenache and Mourvèdre, shaped by the freshness of limestone soils and expressed through a refined, well-balanced structure.
More infoLe Vassal is a blend of 80% Syrah from young vines, complemented by 10% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre, grown on the Languedoc slopes. The Puech Noble terroir is defined by clay-limestone soils strewn with rolled pebbles, similar to those found in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This soil composition promotes good drainage and heat retention, allowing for warm days and cool nights that favour balanced, even ripening. In the winery, fermentation follows a traditional approach without malolactic fermentation.
The wine show a striking bright ruby-red hue. The expressive nose reveals ripe red fruit aromas, notably cherry and raspberry, lifted by spiced notes of black pepper. On the palate, a clean attack leads into fine, well-integrated tannins supported by fresh acidity, carrying through to a long, persistent finish.
About the Producer René Rostaing
In addition to his own domain in Ampuis in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie, René Rostaing, took over his father-in-law Albert Derviux’s property which was one of the largest in the region. These very high-quality vineyards include 7 hectares in the Côte-Rôtie (with 2 hectares in Landonne), just over one hectare in the Côte Blonde and a plot just next to La Turque de Guigal in the Côte Brune. The estate produces three single parcel cuvées which are matured for 24 months in barrels that have been used for several wines. René Rostaing also owns vineyard plots in Condrieu and the Coteaux du Languedoc. He practises sustainable viticulture and has made a name for himself as a very talented winegrower whose wines are highly sought-after all over the world.
