Marsannay La Combe du Pré Jérôme Galeyrand 2018
The wine
The La Combe du Pré parcel is planted mid-slope on limestone-marl soils rich in fossils. These soils impart aromatic concentration and a fine, delicate structure to the wine. Their mineral expression and freshness are typical of this type of limestone, bringing finesse and length. The vines, averaging forty years of age, were planted around 1980. The grapes are hand-harvested at peak ripeness with plot-by-plot selection and careful sorting. Vinification then proceeds with 20% whole clusters. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with gentle cap punching and pump-overs to preserve fruit purity and elegance. The wine is aged for 12 months in barriques, with 20% new oak.
The wine displays a clear and bright light ruby hue. The nose reveals red berry notes with hints of spice and a floral touch. On the palate, a silky attack opens onto pure fruit, lively acidity and smooth tannins, leading into a spicy, moreish finish.
