More info

This iconic wine from the Côte de Brouilly is predominantly crafted from Gamay, a black skinned white pulp grape variety, complemented by a small proportion of Chardonnay, which brings additional finesse to the blend. The clos benefits from a south-west-facing exposure on the hill, where deep soils combine pink granite with volcanic rock. The hand-picked grapes are transported to the winery where they are partially destemmed before undergoing a semi-carbonic maceration lasting 14 days. The wine is then aged in oak foudres (large wooden tuns) for 9 months.
The wine shows a slightly bright garnet-red hue with subtle bluish tints. The expressive nose opens on floral notes of iris and peony, layered with cherry, black fruit and sweet spice. On the palate, a structured profile combines fine-grained tannins with bright acidity, leading to a persistent, fruit-driven finish. A wine to be enjoyed between 2 to 7 years of the vintage.

About the Producer Château Thivin

Château Thivin is situated in the heart of Beaujolais, around the hill of Brouilly. The origins of this domain date back to the 12th century and the the first part of the manor house was built in the 14th century. In 1877, Zaccharie Geoffray bought Château Thivin at an auction with just under two hectares of vines. It was his son Claude who really grew the domain from 1894. The next Claude, son of the first, took over the domain and dedicated himself to wine production with his wife Yvonne. Having not had children themselves, it was their nephew Claude who then took over the domain before handing it over to his own son Claude-Edouarde in 2007, thus keeping it in the family. The vineyard now covers 27 hectares and is cultivated with great care and without the use of insecticide (it's currently being converted to organic agriculture) and biodiversity is favoured with strips of wild flowers. In the chai, the wines are matured in oak casks in beautiful vaulted cellars. Vinifications are carried out plot by plot and the methods used are adapted to each one. Château Thivin produces some of the best wine in the region thanks to their ability to express the terroir. They are fleshy with extremely delicate tannins.
