The wine
The Fontalloro vines stretch across slopes between 330 and 407 metres in altitude, spanning the communes of Castelnuovo Berardenga and Siena. The terroir is particularly complex. On the Chianti Classico slope, the soils are rich in galestro and alberese, while on the Colli Senesi slope, the deeper clayey-loam soils offer higher organic content. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand, from late September to early October. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats over 16 days, with regular pump-overs to ensure precise tannin extraction. The wine is then aged for 22 months in French oak barriques, followed by an additional ten months of bottle ageing to achieve full harmony.
In the glass, the wine reveals an intense ruby-red hue. The complex and bewitching nose reveals intense aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, fine leather and undergrowth. The first sip is generous and silky. Noble, perfectly integrated tannins give the wine a powerful and elegant structure.
About the Producer Fèlsina
In 1966, when Italian vineyards were in decline, one man took up the challenge of making a great wine in Italy. His name was Domenico Poggiali Fèlsina. For over 50 years now, his domaine has successfully set the benchmark for its appellation and is considered to be one of the finest Chianti vineyards. He tends his Sangiovese vines with scrupulous attention and the domaine produces delicate, well-balanced terroir wines.
