The wine
Échezeaux, a grand cru appellation of the Côte de Nuits in the Côtes d’Or established in 1937, lies between Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée. The Pinot Noir vines planted at an altitude of around 250 metres draw all the energy and nutrients they require from clay-limestone soils. The rigorously selected fruit undergoes a traditional, low-intervention winemaking process, using a vertical press. Each stage of the process is carefully thought out to respect the lunar calendar. The Pinot Noir wine is bottled carefully after a few months’ ageing in the cellar.
The dark ruby-red colour reveals a complex bouquet, with aromas of small black fruit combined with hints of mocha, toast and liquorice. The powerful, persistent palate reveals delicious aromas of chocolate and peppermint, leading to a deliciously long, refined finish. This cuvée offers several years of ageing potential.
About the Producer Nicolas Potel
This 1997 trading house has gained worldwide fame thanks to its wines from the best parcels of the vineyard of Burgundy following the purchase of the Volnay family property (the Domaine de la Pousse d'Or). It pays attention to the contracts he makes with respectful wine growers, and covers both the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. The biodynamic calendar is followed, and the élevage on fine lees lasts 12 to 16 months, without racking, and with a minimum of added sulphur.
