Château le Castélot 2015
The wine
This 9-hectare property at the heart of Saint-Emilion was acquired by Jean-François Janoueix in 1978. It benefits from quite a specific microclimate, protected from the northerly winds by the Château Quintus hill, meaning that the grapes reach their optimal maturity quickly. The soils are rich in quartz, gravel and iron, and the vines grown here are 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Vinified in the purest style of the appellation, this wine is an exemplary Saint-Emilion. It is often prized by reputed oenologues and tasters like Michel Rolland and Stéphane Toutoundji. The wine has a deep, crimson colour. Its bouquet is remarkably fine with oaky notes and aromas of black fruit. It has a fresh attack on the palate marked by ripe and balanced tannins. You could pair this wine with a French classic, coq au vin. Whilst this wine can be enjoyed in its first ten years, we recommend ageing it in the cellar for around twenty in order to get the best of it.
