Chassagne-Montrachet Fontaine-Gagnard (Domaine) 2007
The wine
Established in the 1980s, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard’s vineyards cover a dozen hectares in the Côte de Beaune region, covering fine appellations such as Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard and Volnay. This Chassagne-Montrachet white is produced from Chardonnay grown planted in different localities such as La Bergerie, Les Masures, Pot Bois, Voillenot Dessous, Les Essarts, Voillenots Dessus and En Journoblot. These parcels cover a total surface area of 1.68 hectares. Planted between 1960 and 1989, the vines are encouraged to draw the nutrients they require to flourish from the brown limestone-clay soils. Their south-east exposure is perfect for the grapes to reach peak ripeness.
This wine is best enjoyed during its first eight or even up to ten years. It displays a seductive pale yellow colour with a thick disk releasing aromas of fresh fruit and minerality, complemented by floral notes and hints of fresh almond. The texture is soft and full.
About the Producer Fontaine-Gagnard
Founded in 1985 by Laurence Gagnard and Richard Fontaine, the domaine perpetuates the family tradition by working 12 hectares of vines on horseback in Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Pommard.
