Château du Cauze 1969
The wine
Built on the ruins of a fortress destroyed during the Hundred Years War, Château de Cauze is now managed dynamically by the Laporte family. Produced in the vein of fine Saint-Emilions, it is made up of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The harvests are a mixture of manual and mechanic, as is often the case in Bordeaux. The vinification is as traditional as can be. In the glass, this wine has a dark, ruby colour with hints of purple in its youth. The nose is delicate with aromas of red fruit and toasted spices. It has an ample palate with perfectly mellow tannins. This cuvée will pair with any red meat or poultry dish. Decant it a good hour before serving so that it can fully express itself. In terms of ageing, you can age it in the cellar for around a decade, it will only get better.
