Château Beauséjour (Duffau-Lagarrosse) 1er Grand Cru Classé B 2012
The wine
Developing magnificent aromas of black fruit and truffles, Beauséjour's wines represent Saint Emilion at its best. In exceptional vintages, such as 1990, it has produced wines of legendary status that are a match for many of the world's finest grands crus.
Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse ranks among the elite of Saint-Émilion. Set near the 11th-century Church of Saint-Martin de Mazerat, the estate is deeply rooted in the historical fabric of Saint-Émilion.
Classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé since the inception of the Saint-Émilion classification, the property’s expertise has been passed down continuously since 1847. The 6.8-hectare vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir, rooted primarily in clay-limestone soils, with the presence of Fronsadais molasse adding. Since 2021, the ninth generation of the Duffau-Lagarrosse family has partnered with the Prisca Courtin family to oversee vines averaging 45 years of age. The vineyard is planted predominantly with Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc, and enjoys a south to south-west exposure that ensures generous sunlight throughout the day. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, with meticulous care. Ageing lasts between 12 and 14 months depending on the vintage, resulting in wines of notable consistency, perfect balance and refined elegance.
