L'Etoile de Bergey 1998
The wine
This wonderful cuvée comes from one of the biodynamic trailblazers in the Pessac-Léognan region. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes grown in the typical gravel, silica and clay rich soils of the area go into this wine. Hand harvests, rigorous sorting and vinifications in small thermoregulated stainless steel vats make this wine stand out. Elevage takes place for several months in oak barriques. The result: a fleshy, fruit forward and round profile that is begging for a dish of autumn vegetables or game.
Château Haut-Bergey is located in Léognan and dates back to the 15th century. Sylviane Garcin, sister of Daniel Cathiard (Château Smith Haut-Lafitte) bought this cru in the mid-1990s. The vineyard was then converted to biodynamic agriculture. The wines have gained in precision, lightness and delicacy. One to follow!
