Gevrey-Chambertin En Créot Thibault Liger-Belair Successeurs 2022

The wine

The En Créot climat, nestled in the heart of the Gevrey-Chambertin terroir, lies at the foot of the slope to the north of the village. This more discreet locality expresses the finesse of this historic area. The Pinot Noir vines grow on clay-limestone soils mixed with marl, with a high proportion of clay. Manual harvests are followed by strict sorting to retain only the highest quality fruit. Once in the winery, the grapes ferment with native yeasts during a long, 20-day vatting period, punctuated by regular gentle punch-downs and pump-overs. The wine is then aged for 16 months in cask, with 25% new oak, on fine lees.
The ruby-red hue shows dark glints and promises an expressive bouquet. The intense nose reveals black cherry, blackberry, peppery spice and undergrowth. On the palate, the wine is ample and structured, with firm yet elegant tannins, leading into a long, mouthwatering finish.

The estate was founded in 2001, when the family’s five hectares of vines – previously leased out under sharecropping agreements – were brought back under direct management. Since the 18th century, the Burgundian family had overseen the C. Marey and Comte Liger-Belair wine-trading houses. Today, the vineyard extends over eight hectares across some of Burgundy’s most renowned appellations, including Richebourg, Vosne-Romanée, Clos de Vougeot, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin.
In 2004, Thibault established a wine-trading business, Thibault Liger-Belair Successeurs, through which he purchases grapes and farms a further 12 hectares of vines. In 2008, the winemaker expanded into Beaujolais – a region he discovered during his studies – settling in Moulin-à-Vent and creating Domaine des Pierres Roses.
Across these various ventures, the guiding philosophy remains the same: a pursuit of finesse and a constant effort to understand what each vine requires. The wines have already reached an impressive level and are widely regarded as among the region’s rising stars, combining substance with elegance.
