Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux Machard de Gramont 2020

The wine

Located at the heart of the prestigious Côte de Nuits, the Vosne-Romanée appellation is one of the most renowned in Burgundy. The Les Barreaux climat, though classified as a village appellation, occupies an exceptional location next to legendary Grands Crus such as Richebourg and Cros Parantoux. The soil is composed of fractured limestone and red clay, imparting a mineral tension, wonderful freshness and outstanding finesse to the wine. Harvests are carried out by hand, and the grapes are sorted meticulously. The wine is produced using low intervention methods, such as cold pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and gentle punching down. The wine is then aged for 12 months in 20% new oak barrels.
The ruby-red colour of the wine is clear and bright. The nose opens with notes of wild raspberries, peony and dried rose, enhanced by a hint of incense. On the palate, the wine is refined, direct, and almost crystalline, with silky tannins and a striking mineral tension.
