Liqueur L'Abricot du Roulot Roulot (Domaine)

The wine

L’Abricot du Roulot is a rather special bottle, and a firm favourite with the iDealwine team. Bursting with fruit, this liqueur is produced by Jean-Marc Roulot, the winemaker behind the eponymous estate, whose great white Burgundies are highly sought after by wine lovers. As the story goes, around fifteen years after his father passed away death, Jean-Marc Roulot discovered several bottles of apricot liqueur that he had never known him to make. Impressed by what he tasted, he decided to produce his own. He did just that in 2008, using apricots from the orchards of Laurent Combier in the Rhône Valley. Lower in sugar than most liqueurs, at 170g per litre compared with an average of 200 to 250g, it is made by infusing the fruit in a neutral spirit before adding water and sugar.
On tasting, it immediately impresses with its luscious texture and the generous, pulpy character of the fruit. A delightful liqueur to savour slowly on its own, but equally at home alongside a dessert, preferably one featuring apricots!

Domaine Roulot, located in Meursault, is a family farm whose origins go back to the end of the 18th century. Guy Roulot has made this domaine one of the best of appellations (alongside Domaines such as Dominique Lafon and Coche Dury) and it now produces some of the best white wines of all Burgundy. Jean-Marc Roulot took over his father's domaine in 1989, casting aside his career as an actor (although he did not totally abandon it). The 11-hectare vineyard has been certified as organic farming since 1998 and biodynamic since the early 2000s. The vines are generally quite old, planted in the 1950-1960s from mass selection, mainly in white. Jean-Marc Roulot is unanimously recognised by his peers and by enthusiasts around the world, for his biological approach to the care given to vines, strict control of yields and perfectly controlled vinification and élevage with little intervention. Jean-Marc Roulot has chosen to vinify separately the different cuvées of Meursault villages to restore their specific characteristics. The wines are distinguished by their purity, freshness and fine minerality, thanks to harvesting with the correct ripeness. They are of an exceptionally high quality and have an assertive style. However, they are highly sought after and difficult to obtain.
