Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Vercots Antonin Guyon 2021
The wine
Despite operating mostly off-the-radar, Antonin Guyon surprises us with his almost 50 hectares of land in the Côte de Beaune region, especially his beautiful parcels in Aloxe-Corton. This is true of the Les Vercots Premier Cru, where he owns a 6,800 square metre parcel ideally exposed to the rising sun. The Pinot Noir vines are around 20 years of age and draw the necessary nutrients for their development from the soils made up of clay and limestone.
Harvested by hand in small baskets to prevent damage and oxidation, the grapes are sorted in the winery before being vinified for a long time in wood barrels. Temperatures are controlled in order to preserve the delicacy of the noble grape variety. Finally, the wine is left to mature for a year and a half in third new wood barrels meaning that the wine can be stored for up to fifteen years. It has a garnet-red colour with a persistent balance between red fruits and noble wood.
Domaine Antonin Guyon in Sauvigny-lès-Beaune was founded by Antonin Guyon in the 1960s before he passed on the torch to his son Dominique in 1970. At this time the domain spanned 22 hectares on the Hautes-Côtes-de-Nuits. Since then, the vineyard has expanded to the size of 48 hectares, thus covering several appellations in the Côte-de-Nuits and Côte-de-Beaune and including several premiers crus and grands crus. These are powerful wines in a classic style. The domain is considered one of the best in the Côte de Beaune.
