Hermitage Bernard Faurie 1989

The wine

The estate nurtures its noble Syrah vines, which rank among the finest in the appellation, with balanced and meticulous viticulture methods. In the winery, the harvested grapes are vinified following traditional methods in whole bunches. Fermentations are triggered by native yeasts naturally present in the berries. The wine is then aged in casks, with a small proportion of new wood, before being bottled without fining and a light filtration.
The rich colour reveals subtle purplish tints. The intense and expressive bouquet releases aromas of spices combined with notes of red fruit and light hints of wood. The powerful and generous mouthfeel reveals clear tannins complemented by blackcurrant and vanilla. The long and delicious finish displays delicious notes of liquorice. This cuvée promises excellent ageing potential.

A small four-hectare vineyard, Domaine Benard Faurie stretches over some of the best terroirs in the Hermitage wine region, including Greffieux, Besssards, Méal and Saint-Joseph. Bernard Faurie – who represents the fifth generation of winemakers in his family – makes fabulous Hermitage and exceptional, rare Saint-Joseph wines, working his vineyard according to organic principles. The wines from this domaine are renowned among wine enthusiasts for their subtlety and sophistication. This is a name we both want to share and keep to ourselves…
