Meursault 1er Cru Charmes Dessus Antonin Guyon 2017

The wine

Despite operating mostly off-the-radar, Antonin Guyon owns almost 50 hectares of land in the Côte de Beaune region, including three beautiful parcels in Meursault. One of his most magnificent wines is produced from 7,000 square metres of vines in the Charmes Dessus climate. The Chardonnay grapes have been carefully grown according to environmentally sound principles, which typically include controlled and moderate soil enrichment, as well as hand-harvesting the grapes in small baskets. The vines are encouraged to draw the quintessence from the white marl terroir, which has the ideal exposure for ripening the grapes.
In the cellar, fermentation is carried out at a low temperature to preserve this famously delicate grape variety. The wine is left to age for a little over one year in oak barrels, 25% of which are new.
This wine, with its golden colour, has a thick meniscus leading to generous aromas and flavours. It reveals notes of honey, white and yellow fruits and fresh almonds with a great minerality.

Domaine Antonin Guyon in Sauvigny-lès-Beaune was founded by Antonin Guyon in the 1960s before he passed on the torch to his son Dominique in 1970. At this time the domain spanned 22 hectares on the Hautes-Côtes-de-Nuits. Since then, the vineyard has expanded to the size of 48 hectares, thus covering several appellations in the Côte-de-Nuits and Côte-de-Beaune and including several premiers crus and grands crus. These are powerful wines in a classic style. The domain is considered one of the best in the Côte de Beaune.
