The wine
This wine’s bouquet opens with aromas of white flowers. The liveliness of the attack evokes exotic fruits that move towards spicy notes and a lovely fullness on the palate. It is well-balanced. This Condrieu comes from slopes of granite, shallow sand, and pebbles. Following traditional viticulture, the entire harvest poured into the presser. The wine is matured for twelve months in 600-litre demi-muids.
Located in the northern Rhône, the domain Pierre-Jean Villa is considered to be one of the most important in the region today. This winemaker gave his name to the business and can be found in Chavanay, the village of his birth, after having worked at Clos de Tart and collaborated with Pierre Gaillard, Yves Cuilleron and François Villard for the Vins de Vienne. He has been working by himself on the steep hills since 2008, intervening as little as possible. In 2022, he was joined by his children Hugo and Pauline who expanded the range of the estate to include a wine merchant. The vines have been certified as organic since the 2023 vintage. In the cellar, he also limits how much he intervenes with natural yeasts doing their work and the lunar calendar being followed. Matured for one or two years, the wines possess silky tannins and a juiciness that is almost voluptuous.
