Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru Lucien Le Moine 2016

The wine

Romanée-Saint-Vivant is one of the finest grand cru appellations in the Côte de Nuits. It stretches over some ten hectares of vines between Échezeaux and Nuits-Saint-Georges. The Pinot Noir vines are planted at an altitude of around 280 metres, on brown limestone-clay soils providing each vine with the nutrients it requires to thrive. The Pinot Noir grapes are meticulously hand-picked at peak ripeness and vinified according to low-intervention traditional methods.
The rubby-red colour reveals a powerful and expressive bouquet with notes of small red and black fruit mingling with hints of violet, spice and undergrowth. On the palate, the silky tannins are perfectly integrated in a delicate, sensual texture, leading with finesse to a clean, complex finish of remarkable length. This 100% Pinot Noir will age beautifully over several years.

About the Producer Lucien Le Moine

Lucien Le Moine is a haute-couture trader/farmer maison created by Mounir Saouma and Rotem Brakin, a Lebanese couple. After the husband spent some time in a monastery and a first attempt at the art of making wine, then embarked on enology studies, he created his structure in 1999 to offer wine from the finest terroirs. The name of the maison comes from the nickname that his friends gave him as a result of his education in the Cistercian cloister: "Le Moine", the Monk. Lucien was the name given to him by the monks. Today, he produces 38 different crus, ranging from village wines to grand crus. The vinification and élevage are very precise and well done, as delicately and naturally as possible. A must-see.
