More info

Mainly cultivated in the south-west of Gaillac, Verdanel is a very old white grape variety that can withstand heat and cold weather. The Domaine Plageoles Verdanel vines grow on clay-limestone soils and have the particularity of being ‘gobelet’ pruned in a low-bush form. Once the grapes have been hand-picked at peak ripeness, they are immediately pressed and undergo static settling overnight. Fermentation is triggered by native yeasts present on the berries. Following malolactic fermentation, the cuvée is aged in vats for a year before bottling.
The straw-yellow colour unveils a complex, intense nose of yellow fruit, such as pear and quince, mingling with notes of toasted sesame and subtle hints of smoke. The dense and lively palate offers a beautiful balance of density and liveliness, culminating in a silky, chalky and fruity finish.

About the Producer Thomas de Marne

Champagne Thomas de Marne is a family estate located in Ville-sur-Arce, in the heart of the Côte des Bar area of Champagne. It has held an organic certificate since 2007 and covers 6.2 hectares of vines – 5.7 of which are planted with Pinot Noir and the remaining 0.5 with Chardonnay. The vines which are 40 years old on average are harvested entirely by hand and these grapes go on to produce about 17,000 bottles per year. Thomas de Marne continues the sustainable work of his mother Valérie Frison, with an artisanal approach that respects nature. Vinification takes place without additives in oak barrels without filtration or fining to create Brut Nature Champagnes (no sugar is added during the second fermentation). The estate’s style can be described as delicate, mineral and lively.
