The wine

A Highland single malt released in the 1990s by the Invergordon Distillers group for Gall & Gall. This bottling is part of a range of malts aged for 10 years exploring the different regions of Scotland, with Ardnave representing Islay, Cairnluish representing Speyside, Glenfoyle representing the Lowlands and Ben Wyvis the Highlands. Ardnave is one of the names used for the Bruichladdich distillery and Cairnlush a name for Tamnavulin. Glenfoyle and Ben Wyvis also refer to distilleries, but distilleries which closed in 1923 and 1926 respectively. The Invergordon group used the Glenfoyle warehouses from 1971 and, between 1965 and 1976, set up a small malt production unit at the Invergordon grain distillery named Ben Wyvis. It was dismantled in 1977. In both cases, the malts used in these bottlings could not come from these distilleries. Although this practice was fairly common up until the early 2000s, due to the quantity of whisky available, it has become increasingly rare.

About the Producer BEN WYVIS

Scotland, Speyside. Distillery closed.

The name Ben Wyvis is historically associated with that of Ferintosh, a distillery in the Northern Highlands (Black Isle) which was founded in 1879, closed in 1926 and then dismantled in 1993. Up until 1893, it was known as Ben Wyvis. The name reappeared in 1965 when Invergordon Distillers Ltd created a small malt whisky production unit named Ben Wyvis on the site of the Invergordon grain distillery (Northern Highlands). It was, however, closed in 1976 and then demolished in 1977. Only a few official and independent bottlings from 1972 and 1965 remain from this very short period of production. A very rare 10 year old official version also exists.
