Uitvlugt 17 years 1990 Velier Demerara Bottled in 2008 Full Proof

The wine

A rum from Guyana Uitvlugt distilled in 1990 and bottled at cask strength by Genoese independent bottler Velier in 2008 from four casks matured for 17 years in a tropical climate. Velier specialized in these bottlings which in return played a pivotal role in developing its reputation. At the time, Luca Gargano had access to the vaults of Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) thanks to his friendship with Yesu Persaud. This era has sadly passed and these bottlings are today some of the most sought-after by rum enthusiasts and collectors. A limited edition of 881 bottles.

About the Producer Uitvlugt

Built at the end of the 18th century, Uitvlugt is located on the western bank of the River Demerara, near the town of the same name founded by Dutch settlers in 1752. Nationalized in 1979 like many of the country's other distilleries, it was part of Demerara Distillers Ltd. until it closed in 1999. Although many distillations were completed in a Savalle still, Uitvlugt was also home to a Coffey still, a Versailles wood single pot still after Enmore closed in 1994, and a double pot still, also wooden, which is now kept at Port Mourant. After the distillery closed, all the distillation equipment was moved to Diamond, the country's last operating distillery.
