Black Tot Of. Last Consignment British Royal Naval

The wine

For 239 years, all marines in the Royal Navy received a flask of rum in their daily ration pack in a custom that ended in July 1970, on Black Tot Day. This rum is a blend of rums from the British colonies of Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad, and is simply known as Navy Rum. After Black Tot Day, the remaining stocks were stored in stone jars by the Navy, then sold across the world. After finding traces of part of this stock, the jars’’ contents were blended and bottled in 2010 to mark the 40th anniversary of Black Tot Day.

About the Producer Black Tot

Many years ago, sailors in the Royal Navy were rewarded for their commitment with a daily ration of rum called Black Tot. This tradition endured for over 300 years before coming to an end on 31 July 1970, a day commonly known as Black Tot Day. The stone jars containing the precious spirits were kept for almost forty years. This was when Sukhinder Singh decided to purchase all the jars to bottle them and market them to amateurs with a thirst for stories. Following two long years of research, he also extended his range to include a new variety of rum inspired by this tradition with a modern twist. Black Tot rums reflect a long British heritage, and continue to recount the wild adventures of Royal Navy sailors.
