Lot presentation
Sazerac de Forge & Fils 1858 Of. F.O.E.
The wine
This Fine Champagne cognac, which is primarily a blend of Grande Champagne wine and Petite Champagne wine, was distilled in 1858 and bottled in the 1930s. Sazerac de Forge & Fils was once a renowned cognac house, founded in Angoulême by Bernard Sazerac des Roches in 1782 under the Ancien Régime. It exported its cognacs as far as the US and records are found of the company in New Orleans, where the famous Sazerac cocktail was invented, named after the cognac of the same name. Sazerac de Forge & Fils merged with Emile Legrand in 1957 before being bought by Edgard Leyrat in 1970, which was in turn bought by Abécassis in 2003. Production of the Sazerac brand ceased when it was bought by Leyrat.
