Augier Frères 1893 Of. Grande Champagne
The wine
An Augier Frères 1893 cognac from Grande Champagne, the most central and prestigious cru in the appellation. Vintage cognacs of this age are rare, as the BNIC (the cognac industry’’s coordination and decision-making body) demands very high levels of traceability from producers.
About the Producer Augier
Augier is the oldest brand of cognac in existence, created in 1634 by Philippe Augier, who was joined in 1658 by his brother Daniel. The house prospered in the 18th century, before declining in the face of competition from Otard, Martell and Hennessy in the following century. After a long period of mothballing, it was bought by Seagram in 1966. The group’s founder Sam Bronfman hoped at the time to make Augier a competitor to Chivas, an ambition that was stopped in its tracks by his death in 1971. Today it is owned by Pernod Ricard.
