Lot presentation

Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru Pascal Marchand 2008

The wine

This Mazis-Chambertin comes from biodynamic growing in soils of chalk and marl. The Pinot Noir used to make it benefits from an oceanic climate. Vinified with laudable care and minimal intervention, the wine has a deep and elegant appearance. Its bouquet has a definite finesse, giving off notes of red fruit (redcurrant, raspberry), black fruit (blackcurrant, blueberry, plum), and liquorice. Over time it will also develop leathery aromas. Some time in the cellar is necessary for the cuvée to gain all its complexity. It persists well on the palate and will pair nicely with noble dishes like a truffle gratin or game.

About the Producer Marchand-Tawse

Originally from Montreal, Pascal Marchand fell in love with Burgundy's climats on his first trip to France. In 1983 he decided to take the leap and move there. He learnt at Clos des Epeneaux for 15 years before spending a further seven at Domaine de la Vougeraie. In 2006 he launched his own venture as a wine merchant before founding Marchand Tawse with Moray Tawse in 2010. Today, wines are produced across 51 appellations and 25 climats between the Côte de Nuit, Côte de Beaune and Chablis. With Pascal Marchand, we're far from the clichés often heard about wine merchant activity. He works with low yields, respects biodynamic principles in the vines, works only with indigenous yeasts and avoids fining and filtering. Demanding work that provides results, as proven by the success of every vintage produced thus far. He has also acquired properties on the fine appellations of Puligny-Montrachet, Corton Charlemagne and Volnay.
