The wine
The vines located in the village appellation above Rugiens reside in white soil that is shallow and exposed to the north-east. With an average age of 40 years, the vine’s resulting wine has aromas of cloves, blackcurrant, and delicate, red fruits.
About the Producer Domaine de Courcel
No other domaine better embodies the Pommard appellation than Domaine Courcel. Over 10 hectares, this domaine produces the greatest red wines of the town thanks to exceptional terroirs such as the Premier Cru Grand Clos des Epenots (which it runs as a monopole) or even the Rugiens which surpass many grands crus. Since 1996, Anne Bommelaer and Marie de Courcel have managed the domaine while Gilles de Courcel, assisted by Yves Confuron, is in charge of the vinification process. The vineyards are managed organically (not certified), and the family’s demands are ever present.
