The wine
A Domaine de Courcelles rum distilled in 1948 and bottled in the late 1970s after the distillery’’s closure. Like the 1972 vintage, several versions of this 1948 exist. The first was bottled by Claude Marsol & Compagnie in 1973 at 42% ABV. The three other versions were bottled at 50% ABV by Remora PAP in different bottles.
About the Producer Domaine de Courcelles
Domaine de Courcelles was founded in the early 1930s in Grande-Terre, Guadeloupe, and closed in 1964. The owner, Amédée Huygues Despointes, moved the stills to Saint-Marthe, where they continued to be used before it was closed for good in 1972, the year of the last distillation. The distillery produced molasses-based rum. The last casks were for a long time forgotten until being bought by an independent bottler, who took them to Marie-Galante and transferred the contents into oak barrels.
