The wine
The Menetou-Salon rosé appellation is a PDO produced around Menetou-Salon, north-east of Bourges. The vineyard, which can be traced back to 11th-century records, was hit hard during the phylloxera crisis at the end of the 19th century. Despite this, the Menetou-Salon winegrowers’ union was formed to revive the sector, culminating in the appellation being granted to Menetou-Salon in 1959.
The appellation area, situated in the Cher department, spans several communes and is characterised by limestone and clay soils and a semi-continental climate. While less well known than other appellations in the region, such as Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé, AOC Menetou-Salon is committed to producing wines of superior quality.
The vineyard covers 500 hectares, benefiting from microclimates depending on the terroir. Its proximity to Bourges has contributed to its renown since the Middle Ages, notably as a result of its reputation at the seigneurial table of Jacques Cœur.
Menetou-Salon rosé wines, primarily produced from Pinot Noir grapes, are characterised by their grey reflections and subtle peach aroma. They are appreciated for their freshness and lightness, reflecting the unique terroir of the region. These rosé wines are perfect partners for grilled meats, poultry and asparagus with vinaigrette.
