The wine
Spanish rosé wines are reputed for their freshness and fruity character. The main producing regions include Rioja, Catalonia and the Valencia region. Soils differ from one region to the next, ranging from clay and limestone in Rioja to alluvial and schist soils in Catalonia. These diverse terroirs confer distinct aromatic profiles on the wines. The most commonly used grape varieties are Garnacha, Tempranillo and Bobal, among others.
Spanish rosé wines display aromas of strawberry, raspberry, cherry and at times floral or spicy notes. They are generally dry with balanced acidity. These nectars are designed to be savoured young when their freshness and fruity aromas are at their best. Nevertheless, some premium quality rosés can evolve and gain in complexity with a short ageing period. These rosés pair well with an array of dishes such as seafood, salads, tapas, white meats and rice dishes. They are equally perfect for summer meals and social gatherings.
