Wine for sale: Domaine Clair Obscur
Domaine Clair Obscur
Domaine du Clair Obscur is the brainchild of Jennifer and Pierre Clair. Located in Corpeau, at the southernmost tip of the Côte d’Or, the couple crafts elegant, finely etched natural wines that shine a light on lesser-known appellations.
Passionate advocates of natural wine, Jennifer and Pierre put this philosophy into practice across the estate. The vines are tended with respect for biodiversity, using organic and biodynamic methods. Chemicals are strictly banned, both in the vineyard and in the winery, and only a touch of sulphur is added at bottling if deemed necessary. The wines are deliberately unpretentious, highlighting terroirs rarely in the spotlight, such as Maranges and Hautes Côtes de Beaune. More recently, a micro-négociant arm has been created to further enrich the estate’s already impressive portfolio.
The estate’s journey started in 2006 in the commune of Corpeau, on the border between the villages of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. Jennifer and Pierre Clair cultivate nearly four hectares in the Burgundy region. Pierre inherited Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines planted by his grandfather in the 1960s, a priceless legacy that allowed the couple to thrive in one of the world’s most celebrated wine regions. Their debut vintage in 2009 set the tone for what was to come.
