Domaine Kuheiji

The Kuheiji estate truly is a gateway between Japan and Burgundy. Located in Morey-Saint-Denis in the heart of the Burgundy region, Kuheiji Kuno has taken on the challenge of uniting the savoir-faire of wine and sake by combining their production techniques. Since 2013, his vines have been cultivated in accordance with a philosophy that focuses on the authentic expression of terroir.

Nestling 17 kilometres south of Dijon in the heart of Burgundy wine country, the estate is located in Morey-Saint-Denis. The vineyard’s roots lie in the incredible challenge undertaken by Kuheiji Kuno, owner of the Banjo brewery. He had been selling tasty, traditional sake since 2006. In 2013, he decided to travel to France to mount an ambitious project to create a powerful alchemy between wine and sake, by switching the brewing techniques specific to each beverage. The challenge was considerable, and Kuheiji Kuno acquired his first plot in 2013 in Morey-Saint-Denis, followed by a winery in 2015. The estate cultivates over two hectares of vines on east facing slopes at an altitude of around 250 metres, on limestone and clay soils. Be it wine or sake, Kuheiji Kuno applies the same philosophy, aiming to express the flavours of unique terroirs.
