Domaine Camille Braun
It was in 1960 that Camille Braun, who lends his name to the estate, decided to transform the property from polyculture to fully concentrate on vines with the help of his wife, Marguerite. In 1987, he passed on the torch to his son, Christophe, whose work continued to rise the estate through the ranks of well-known Alsatian producers.
The vineyard covers nearly 15 hectare in Orschwihr and surrounding areas with jewels such as Pfingstberg Grand Cru (2.15 ha), the Bollenberg hill (5.75 ha) and a mosaic of other terroirs – Luft, Lippelsberg, Neuberg, Buchrod, Sonnenglanz, Meissenberg. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the soil is worked with the greatest respect.
Pioneers in sustainable farming, Christophe Braun and his wife Chantal took further steps for the estate, gaining organic certification in 2003 and Demeter and Biodyvin in 2017. Today, the estate is one of the references for biodynamic viticulture in Alsace and is now run by Annabelle Braun, Camille’s granddaughter.
The range reflects the richness of the region: Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Muscat and Pinot Noir – each wine loyally reflecting where it comes from. The wines produced from the Pfingstberg Grand Cru are Riesling and Pinot Gris, full of intensity and wonderful aromatic precision.
Located in Orschwihr, a winegrowing village nestled in the south of the Alsace region, the Braun family are one of the oldest winemaking families in the region with roots going back as far as 1593. The passion for the terroir is passed on through the generations.
