France is not the only country where a love of the terroir encourages winegrowers to adopt biodynamic practices, as has been demonstrated by the Felton Road domaine in Central Otago New Zealand since 2002. Nigel Greening's vineyard, which is split between four outstanding parcels, has been producing authentic, delicate wines while respecting the soil and vines since 2002. Robert Parker got it right; Felton Road has become a benchmark in Pinot Noir. He praised these Pinots and correctly predicted they would rival the best of California, Oregon and Burgundy’s Côte d’Or. Felton Road Block 3 Pinot Noir is a demonstration of the domain's non-interventionist philosophy; it is made entirely with native yeasts, neither filtered nor fined, and matured for 13 months in French oak barrels used several times before. A true jewel of the domain, this Pinot Noir is elegant, fine and floral, with subtle, silky tannins that enable the aromas to leave their mark on the palate and persist in the mouth.
