Information
Damien Coquelet (like his father in law, Georges Descombes) is a big follower of winemaker Marcel Lapierre. Young Coquelot has been in the winemaking business since 2009 and ensures his wines are of good quality, naturally, by following a ‘no sulphur’ philosophy. His nine hectacre vineyard is in Morgon where the terroir is very good and four of these hectacres are situated within the famous Côte de Py. The use of soil ploughing , natural yeasts and carbonic maceration all contribute to make this wine a great success.
Living in the same village as his father-in-law Georges Descombes, Damien Coquelet uses as little intervention as possible with his Gamay grapes. The result is a Chiroubles grown in typical pink granite soil. Chiroubles is home to the Beaujolais region's highest vineyards, hence a significant daily temperature range bestowing lightness and generosity upon the wine. To produce this wine, with its beautiful garnet-red colour, subtle notes of red berries, raspberries and wild strawberries, and juicy, silky, persistent palate, Damien Coquelet has employed a vinification process using native yeasts and carbonic maceration throughout.
