Dominique Derain, the grandson of a vine-grower, and his wife Catherine manage a 5.5 hectare vineyard in Saint-Aubin. He is one of the pioneers of biodynamics in Burgundy - his domaine has been certified since the first harvest in 1989. His wines assert a strong personality, originality and a rare expression of his terroirs.

Domaine Derain is one of Burgundy’s flagship domains and produces striking wines that are bursting with energy; wines that can be found on some of the finest wine lists in France. Produced from young Pinot Noir vines farmed on brown, ferrous soils, the Derain’s Bourgogne Les Riaux is a pure moment of joy. The yields are limited to 30 hectolitres per hectare, thus producing concentrated fruits. The grapes are harvested by hand. After pressingm the juice and skins are transferred into vats to macerate for two weeks. The wine is then left in barrels for six months of élevage. This cuvée offers a wonderful aromatic expression of Pinot Noir, with notes of fresh red fruits and sweet spices. On the palate, the watchwords are tension and sapidity, in addition to incredible depth and lots of finesse. This highly drinkable wine will pair particularly well with rillettes, pâtés and hams.
