    Information
    About the producer

Acquired by the Lihour family 1885, this 1é-hectare domain has not changed hands since. Five generations have succeeded, and now it's up to Franck Lihour who is taking more and more responsibility after his parents, Christian and Pierrette. Most of the vines here are grown in clay-rich soil and are treated with natural products like manure. Whether they are used for the dry or sweet wines, all of the grapes are harvested by hand in successive sorting sessions. During vinification, the producers aim to use as little sulphur as possible. Their philosophy has always been the same: to craft soulful wines. Known for their explosive ‘domain cuvées', they are also lauded for the single-parcel cuvées that have impressive intensity and depth.

    About the wine

Domain Castéra crafts a Jurançon using local varietals, Petit manseng and Gros manseng, planted between 1970 and 2005. The vines are in an ideal, sunny location facing south and south-west on terraces of limestone, clay, and chalk.
The domain limits its yields to 30 hectolitres per hectare, and carries out the harvests by hand with sorting sessions from mid-October to November.
In the winery, the grapes are slowly pressed in whole bunches. The juice is then lightly clarified, with wild yeasts instigating the alcoholic fermentation. The wine is then matured on lees for a year in vats and different wooden containers.
We recommend opening this cuvée within its first ten years. It will charm you with its flavourful and fruity notes of citrus zest, white flowers, gentle spices, and exotic fruit. It is well-balanced between a mellow texture and lively acidity.
If you like a sweet and salty dish, this wine will pair nicely with meat and fruit combinations or perhaps a recipe involving coconut milk. Cheese fans might like to serve this wine with mature cheese or goats’ cheese with candied pear.
